I recently became a VIP for The Once Upon A Book Club Subscription Box and this was my first book from their subscription box. I immediately dove into this book because I was excited to read it and find out what the gifts were that came along with the book and I was not disappointed!

“…sometimes relationships don’t die. They just don’t grow. Kept from sunlight, from nourishment, they never flourish.”

Katrina and Nathan wrote a best selling book together four years ago and haven’t spoken since due to some writing fallouts that led to Nathans divorce and Katrina’s writers block. Still having a contract to write one more book together they are forced to reconnect and knock out another bestseller in two months. Will they be able to put their rocky past behind them or will they let their contract fall to pieces?
“Fiction comes from truth. It is a wonderful, imaginative, flourishing thing grown from a seed of real feelings, real desires, real fears. No artist ever creates from nothing. We work from what we’ve experienced, inspired by the unique piece of the world we see. It’s why art cannot be replicated.”
As said above I got this book from Once Upon A Book Club and so after this review I will be showing you what came in the box. These are gifts for you to open as you read the book. Please only scroll all the way to the bottom if you are ok with spoilers!
This book was a slow burn but it was really worth it! You feel the connection between the two characters immediately and you are just rooting for them to get together from the start.
I really enjoyed the characters in this book. They both had silly little quirks they had to overcome throughout the book that really added some much needed contrast to the writing and characters. Chris’s character was easy to hate which I thought was perfect for this books over all story because we needed something to despise while reading.
The thing that I hated and loved the most was the ending. It was super fast which flowed really well but I was left wanting more of their relationship. Overall this was a really fun read that I think you will really enjoy.
“There’s no truth to these pages, but the trick of fiction is to make you think there is. I let myself fall for it as often as I can.”
I am so excited to share my first Author Interview for this weekend! This is the first interview I have ever done and even though it was through email and not face to face I was still so nervous! What if I ask a stupid question? What if they think I didn’t take this seriously? What if my readers don’t enjoy the questions? Of course I am going to worry about these things because this is my first ever interview and I want to continue to have opportunities like this arise. But what this really comes down to is making connections with these authors and showing my audience how incredible they are as people and how amazing their books are.
This will be the first interview of three that will be posted this weekend. I asked each author a series of the same questions to see how different or alike each individual author is, especially because they all live in different parts of the country! I also asked more specific questions geared to each individual author as well. I hope you all enjoy these just as much as I have!
Something to keep in mind is that each of the authors I interview this week will be offering a signed copy of their books for my giveaway coming up on October 8th for my bookstaversary! I will post links to follow each author and also a link to be able to buy a copy of their books.

Interview
Q: Please tell us a little bit about yourself and your book.
A: Hello! My name is Lily Kathleen. I am 17 years old. I have written and self-published my own book, The Intellect. The Intellect is a YA Romance Mystery, targeted for teens and young adults.
Q: How old were you when you first started writing?
A: When I first started writing I was about 13 years old.
Q: When did you start writing “The Intellect”?
A: I started writing The Intellect when I was 16 years old. It was at the end of May, 2020
Thoughts: The one thing that I appreciated about the pandemic is that it gave many people the time to be creative and even start their own businesses. In this case it gave you the time to sit down and write your first book!
Q: What was the hardest part about writing your book?
A: The hardest part about writing my book was the beginning. I probably rewrote it about 6-7 times before I was satisfied with it.
Thoughts: I have never written a book before but I could only imagine how tough it would be to get every detail sorted out the proper way to create a well written and sequential book.
Q: How did you come up with the title of your book?
A: The title of my book came kind of randomly to me. I was looking for a word that would describe what Jessica was, and I found “Intellect”, which fit perfectly.
Thoughts: I always find the origin to things like this very interesting. A title to a book is to me the most important part, even before a cover! Yes, I do judge my books by the covers but if the title doesn’t sound interesting then why should I pick up a book? I feel as if “The Intellect” was the perfect title for this book because it fully described the whole book!
Q: Are you currently working on any new projects?
A: Yes. I’m actually working on three books right now. I keep going back and forth between them all.
Thoughts: That is so amazing! I can read three books at a time but I don’t think I could manage keeping all three books and their ideas all separate. I applaud your dedication!
Q: Did you always want to be an Author? What was your dream job as a child?
A: I didn’t always want to be an author. It was definitely an idea, but not something I expected to ever do.
Q: Do you have any pets? If so, how many and who is your favorite?
A: I have lots of pets. The goats are my favorite. I have a goat named Snickerdoodle, who is 1.5 years old. She’s already had babies, 3 boys, which I was definitely upset about. We don’t keep our boys, so you can imagine how upset I was with her. But I still love her. I also have a goat named Cupcake, who’s been my best friend since the day she was born, about 5 years ago. I had two baby goats who meant the world to me, but unfortunately they passed away together on the same day. They were best friends, even though there was a 3 month age difference. It’s definitely been hard without them here.
Q: What is it like to live on a farm with over 400 goats?
A: It’s very stressful and a lot of work. It’s very time consuming, but it can be fun at times.
Q: Do you have any other animals on your land?
A: We had a dog, some cats, and about 40 cows.
Thoughts: Wow I couldn’t imagine having so many animals to take care of!
Q: What is your writing process like? How do you get in the zone?
A: I started by just writing. I didn’t expect it to go anywhere, like the rest of my writing, but as I continued writing, I realized how much I really liked my idea. So, I stopped and wrote out every idea I had to write my book. I ran through it with my mom, who helped me more than anyone with this book. I wrote for many weeks, barely doing anything else, and I ended up with the book I had. I edited it a couple times, then took a month break and edited two more times, and did this process about 5 times, for a total of about 10-12 edits. Then I had some friends and family read it afterwards, before publishing it.
Thoughts: It is so cool to see what kind of work goes into creating a book. Sometimes as a reader I forget to think about how much time and effort goes into the process.
Q: Who is your favorite character that you have written so far?
A: Ally. I love Ally so much, even though she’s not the main character. I love how much she cares about Jessica. I also love her sense of humor and motivation for her baking business.
Thoughts: I highly recommend you go pick up “The Intellect” so you can find out more about ally’s character. Ally was also my favorite character because I could relate to her love for baking and putting all your effort into something you love to do.
Q: Do you read book reviews? How do you handle the bad vs good reviews?
A: Yes. I read every review I get, so I can figure out what I need to improve. Bad reviews can be really difficult for me. As I wrote this when I was 16, I understand things aren’t going to be the same as writers who are 30+ years old. I try not to read into negative reviews too much because I understand that everyone has different preferences and it doesn’t mean my book is bad. It just wasn’t for them.
Thoughts: As a reviewer I always strive to give the most honest review I can without being harsh. So lets say the book had a lot of issues, I word it more as constructive criticism than pure hatred. I don’t ever want to hurt someone’s feelings over something they worked so hard on.
Q: Do you believe in writers block? If so how do you overcome it?
A: Yes. I experienced this a lot. I always set my writing down and go for a walk, play piano or guitar, or find some other creative outlet that can allow me to not think about my writing and think about something else creative that can potentially help me write and come up with new, fun ideas.
Thoughts: I don’t know if it is fair to compare writers block to a reading slump but those are difficult to get past as well. I am glad you are able to get away from your work for a bit to refresh your mind.
Q: What advice would you give to your younger self now that you have written and published a book?
A: I would probably tell myself to not focus on bad reviews. I had a really difficult time at first and I still do. It made me believe I was a bad writer and that I should give up. I still struggle with bad reviews at times, but I try to focus on the good ones now. I haven’t written any of my book ideas for some time and I wish I could tell myself not to worry about reviews. I would also tell myself to not worry about how popular my book is compared to other writers. Every author sells a different amount of books, based on the genre, age range, and type of book. Just like people, everyone is unique and different in their own way.
Thoughts: I loved your book! I really don’t want bad reviews to get you down either. This is your first book and you are only 17! That is a crazy accomplishment and I personally am so proud of you and I know your family and friends are as well. Keep your head up, great things are coming your way!
Q: What advice would you give someone who is writing their first book?
A: My advice would be to never give up. It gets really hard, but take breaks, find another creative outlet, and think about what you hope to accomplish with your writing. Also, take plenty of notes while and before writing.
Thoughts: This is such great advise! Making goals and taking notes are my two favorite ways to accomplish my tasks.
Q: What is your favorite book of all time?
A: My favorite book is Maybe Someday by Colleen Hoover.
Q: What was the first book that you can remember reading? One that made an impact on you?
A: The Fault In Our Stars. It wasn’t my first book, but it was the book that got me into reading more as a teen.
Thoughts: I remember reading this book in middle school and it tore my heart apart! I loved the story and writing but this book made me cry!
Q: If you could meet your characters, what would you say to them?
A: I would honestly just hang out with them. I would love to just spend time with people my age that have similar interests as I do. I think that my characters would be super fun to hang out with and I know they’d be open to anyone.
Thoughts: I think this is the beauty of creating your own characters because they really can become your best friends or just exact copies of the people you wish you could be friends with. Your characters were all very relatable as well which really helped create connections with your readers.
Q: Who is your hero?
A: My mom is my hero. She’s been my best friend for a long time. She’s helped me so much, especially these past years, which have been the most difficult years of my life. She understands me and cares for me more than anyone ever has.
Q: Did you celebrate when you finished your book? How?
A: I didn’t do anything to celebrate. I was really happy though and I rushed to tell my mom before anyone else.
Thoughts: You and your mom are both absolutely gorgeous! I love that she is your hero and biggest supporter in your life. Moms are so very special! Also can we talk about how gorgeous that dress is? I wish I looked this good for my prom!
Conclusion
I met Lily on bookstagram a few months ago and I truly believe she is my best friend on bookstagram. She has such a kind soul and a very creative mind! I was so excited to get a free copy of her book when we met and I immediately dove in.
Here is a bit of my review of her book and the link to my full review.
This book was the perfect mixture of Romance and mystery tied together. When you think of a YA romance book you want this cute high school relationship that doesn’t feel like an adult love story. This book gave me the nostalgia of high school romance, the way you feel when you have a crush and when you try to hide the way you feel to protect your heart from being hurt. This book had all the feels of high school love rushing back to me.

But this wasn’t an ending, this was a beginning of a happier life. I felt like I had something to hold onto. Something that would actually let me be free to be who I was and not pretend to be someone I wasn’t.

The characters are so adorable and absolutely relatable! Jessica being this curious, smart bookworm and Aaron being a miss understood loner, I promise you will find something to relate to while you read this book.
I am giving this book a four star rating for a few reasons. I loved this book and I will be recommending it to everyone there were just a few things that I have to bring up that can be fixed really easily! First I would like you to keep in mind this is beautifully written by a 17 year old, and was self published! OK so there are a few distracting grammar and spelling errors but not too many that it would pull you out of the book. Some sentences felt a tad redundant like over using certain words a lot or even the same sentence just re worded a bit. These are things that can be easily forgiven though because of how good the actual story is.
Over all I loved this book and I am so happy I got the chance to read and give my honest review for all of you. This book has such an amazing story with an even better plot twist at the end. The last Hundred pages will have you entranced and you won’t be able to put the book down!
Every time I see you rush down the street to the bus stop my heart starts to beat faster. It’s like even if I can’t see you I can feel you coming.

This month my genres are going to be all over the place! From Self Help to Fantasy I am going to cover it all, well kind of. There are more than five genres in the world but all five of my books I would say touch different genres and ideas from each other and so I am very excited to get started with this months picks!
My Line Up
Romance
Self Help
Poetry
Fantasy
Historical Fiction
Like I said all these books are very different than one another and I think that adds to all the fun! Two of these books are part of buddy reads which I still haven’t decided if I fully enjoy or not, but I am really trying! The other three books are ones I need to tackle so I can say that I have read them, they have been on my shelf for quite sometime.
I haven’t really read a poetry book before so when my new work friend recommended me “I Would Leave Me Too” by Halsey I honestly was kind of skeptical. I am not the best at understanding poetry and I am afraid I will just make a fool of myself trying to interpret the meaning behind the words. However, you will never know unless you try!
I am trying to read through all the Harry Potter books this coming year, one each month. This is part of a buddy read so it helps me to stay motivated to get it read. Also my boyfriends family are having a Harry Potter themed Halloween party so I should probably start finding a character I resonate with. Any help with this is very much appreciated!
“The Intellect” is an Indy book published by a seventeen year old! Yes, you read that correctly! I am so excited that she asked me to represent her book and to try and spread the word about her new romance novel. I am about halfway through the book and I am in love! If you would like to check out her book I will add a link so you can get your own copy.
“You Should Talk to Someone” has been catching my eye for months! I just keep putting it off because I’m not really a non-fiction self help kind of girl but honestly after the month I have had lately I could use some guidance in life. This will most likely be apart of a buddy read as well this month, maybe the other people in this group can help me get my life together!
Last but not least is “The Rose Code”, historical fiction is also out of my comfort zone but I mean who can turn down this gorgeous cover? I have also read so many wonderful reviews on this book and now that the hype has started to slow down I think now could be the perfect time to dive into this book.
Last month was crazy but this month might be worse. I am trying to balance a new job while also taking care of a three week old kitten and honestly I am sleep deprived! I haven’t really picked up a book in over a week and that is kind of depressing, but reading four books last month was a win for me! Now my goal is to keep that up with my busy schedule! Wish me luck!
If you are interested in reading one of these books with me lets do it!
I have a lot of stuff going on in my life currently and I thought I would like to share these with all of you! I figured this is my blog and yes it focuses on books but also me, so why not share what is going on currently. What am I reading? What did I just finish reading? What are some major life things happening right now? What am I currently watching? Let’s get a little more personal here.
Let’s Talk Books

I just finished the first Harry Potter book for my first time ever! Can you really call me a book lover if I haven’t read this series? I know all the stuff going on with JKR is very controversial and I have read up on it and by no means do I support what is happening! I personally wanted to start this series to see why this book got so many young kids hooked on reading and what I missed out on growing up.
My Mini Review
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Rating: 5 out of 5.
I absolutely loved this book and I do understand why so many young kids fell in love with reading after they read this book. I wish I would have gave it a chance when I was younger, as now I am 22 and just started to love reading. I missed out on so many years of falling in love with different worlds and making fictional friends.
I took the Harry Potter house quiz and I got put into the Hufflepuff house. Now I am curious, is there a book or anything I can read to learn more of the Hufflepuff side of things?
I am currently about half way through “The House in the Cerulean Sea” by TJ Klune. This book is the book my own book club is reading for the month of August and I have been so excited to discuss it with them! However, I am not loving the book yet. I feel like it will get better and pick up pace soon but man is it dragging. I feel as if this book is over hyped which makes it harder to get into. Fingers crossed I end up falling in love with it.
My next read is going to be “The Unhoneymooners” by Christina Lauren. I feel like I only read super popular books. As a fairly new reader I rely heavily on other peoples reviews and this book has had many great reviews on bookstagram. I can not wait to dive into this book!
Currently Watching
To say that I am a reality TV snob would be an understatement! My boyfriend is constantly telling me I watch too much reality TV and has tried tirelessly to get me to watch just a basic TV show but honestly they just don’t keep my attention like a “good” reality show.
The main shows that I have been obsessed with lately would be; Hells Kitchen, The Bachelorette, Big Brother and Master Chef. I am a sucker for drama, food, and competition.
Hells Kitchen released two seasons back to back and that was so exciting! Season 19 was an ok season and season 20 (on tv now) isn’t much better. I support Rasmy’s decision to crown Kori the winner of season 19 I feel like she deserved it but man I hated some of those contestants with all my heart! Season 20 is the young gun season and so they are all a bunch of 21 year-olds who know basically nothing! Honestly I despise almost all of these contestants except for like two of the men. Don’t ask why I still continue to watch the show if I hate the people because I can’t give you an answer.
Bachelor Nation has been a crap show for a few seasons now. The last season I actually enjoyed was Becca’s season back in 2018, that was forever ago! Matt’s season was a joke! I thought Katie would kill it but man her season was a mess! Now we are starting Paradise and yes I am excited for it but ehh some of the people on their I could live without. Also I miss Chris Harrison, Fight me if you don’t agree.
Master Chef has always been a favorite! I love the mystery box challenge, it is so crazy to see what these home cooks can come up with! This show just makes me very hungry! This season is the season of legends so the whole show has changed a bit and honestly not for the best. I like the legends they are bringing in, most of them are really cool. I love that Joe is finally back on the show, I hated Christina. What I am hating is that there is no mystery box challenges or elimination challenges or even the ones where they leave the master chef bubble and go out into the world. Its just “Oh hey here is a legendary chef make this dish for them and one of you will go home.” I don’t know, it just feels bleh, but here I am still watching it religiously.
Big Brother has been a family favorite since I was a child but we stopped watching after season 18 because life got busy and it costed a lot to pay for subscriptions to watch things. Now that I have my own money I bought Paramount Plus and it came with Big Brother so I have been binging it for the past two months trying to catch up on what I missed out on. I am on season 22 the All Stars season and man these All Stars kind of suck haha. I love Nicole and Cody so rooting for them for sure!
Do you watch any of these shows?
Life Things
Life has been pretty chaotic this past month! I quit a toxic job, I got a new job, I read a lot, I watch a lot of TV, I am trying to make friends…gosh just a lot! Lets talk about it!
Noah’s Birthday
My boyfriend turned 22 on the 14th of this month and so of course we had to celebrate! We had a whole week of birthday celebrations! He even convinced me to start playing D&D with our friends.
I love lots of things about this man but most importantly I am so thankful for all of his support.
Mental Health
Me and Noah started taking control of our mental health by using this app called “Finch”. You basically get to take care of a baby finch (it looks like a penguin) by answering questions and taking quizzes about your day and completing goals. After you baby has enough energy you send it on an adventure and he typically comes back with something he discovered like a fruit, drink, book or hobby. He then decides if he likes or dislikes the item. When you answer his questions like the one to the right here it gives him personality traits! Over all I recommend this app!
They also just added a pet store so you can buy cute clothes for you finch to wear!
I will have a link to download the app down below.
I have a special code too! When it asks use this 4ECF3QLPWR it will give you 600 starting stones (money) for the store! If code doesn’t work send me a message.
I am currently a rep for multiple places and even an author now! A lot of this information is posted on my “About Me” page but if you are looking for more information I am happy to help you out so just feel free to send me any questions you have, the best way to contact me is through my Instagram or Facebook pages.
My Newest Position
I am happy to announce starting in September I will be an official rep for the author of “The Intellect” by Lily Kathleen.

Lily is only 17 years old and she already has some really amazing reviews on her YA romance novel!

“Fifteen-year-old Jessica Adams moves to a small town in South Dakota at the beginning of summer. Moving is normal for her, but this time seems to be a bit different. She isolates herself from the outside world as she begins to question her whole life. Her parents never give her the freedom her older siblings have, nor can she even be left at home alone without her parents constantly texting and calling her. She begins to feel alone, as she spends her whole summer cooped up in her room.
But things quickly start to turn around when she meets a mysterious guy, named Aaron Conners, on the first day of school. No one looks at him, nor talks to him. So why is he always hiding?
He has a seriously huge secret, but so does she. Her secret can lead her into much danger. The only thing is that she doesn’t actually know what her secret is.
Will she make a massive mistake in trying to figure out what her big secret is? And will it lead her and those she loves into more danger than ever before?”
My really good bookstagram friend has started to make the cutest bookmarks I have ever seen and she just released her fall line along with her new Etsy shop!
I love all the designs she has came out with this time but I think my personal favorites are the “A Thousand Suns” collection! Sunflowers are seriously the best flowers out there.
All in all fall is my favorite season and I am so excited to share this collection with you.
Down below I will post a link to her new Etsy shop and her Bookstagram page as well.
