Valentine’s Buddy Read with Bai.books (AKA Me)

Love is in the air!

I have decided for the month of February and maybe the months to follow I would like to host a buddy read! This month is based on romance reads due to the Valentine’s day Holiday. I was originally only going to pick one book for this because hosting two chats can be intimidating. However, I decided to host two this month because I have been dying to read both of these books!

The Books

“The Unhoneymooners” By Christina Lauren

Olive is always unlucky: in her career, in love, in…well, everything. Her identical twin sister Ami, on the other hand, is probably the luckiest person in the world. Her meet-cute with her fiancé is something out of a romantic comedy (gag) and she’s managed to finance her entire wedding by winning a series of Internet contests (double gag). Worst of all, she’s forcing Olive to spend the day with her sworn enemy, Ethan, who just happens to be the best man.

Olive braces herself to get through 24 hours of wedding hell before she can return to her comfortable, unlucky life. But when the entire wedding party gets food poisoning from eating bad shellfish, the only people who aren’t affected are Olive and Ethan. And now there’s an all-expenses-paid honeymoon in Hawaii up for grabs.

Putting their mutual hatred aside for the sake of a free vacation, Olive and Ethan head for paradise, determined to avoid each other at all costs. But when Olive runs into her future boss, the little white lie she tells him is suddenly at risk to become a whole lot bigger. She and Ethan now have to pretend to be loving newlyweds, and her luck seems worse than ever. But the weird thing is that she doesn’t mind playing pretend. In fact, she feels kind of… lucky.

“Weather Girl” By Rachel Lynn Solomon

Ari Abrams has always been fascinated by the weather, and she loves almost everything about her job as a TV meteorologist. Her boss, legendary Seattle weatherwoman Torrance Hale, is too distracted by her tempestuous relationship with her ex-husband, the station’s news director, to give Ari the mentorship she wants. Ari, who runs on sunshine and optimism, is at her wits’ end. The only person who seems to understand how she feels is sweet but reserved sports reporter Russell Barringer.

In the aftermath of a disastrous holiday party, Ari and Russell decide to team up to solve their bosses’ relationship issues. Between secret gifts and double dates, they start nudging their bosses back together. But their well-meaning meddling backfires when the real chemistry builds between Ari and Russell.

Working closely with Russell means allowing him to get to know parts of herself that Ari keeps hidden from everyone. Will he be able to embrace her dark clouds as well as her clear skies?

Reading Schedules

If you are wanting to join in on one or even both of these buddy reads please head over to my Instagram and comment on my buddy read post! I will then get you added to the chats for that particular book.

The group chats will be held on a designated night that we all vote upon in the group chat. We will then be able to discuss the book and talk about reading schedules. As I get the updated information I will update this blog post.

I am so excited to be hosting these buddy reads and I hope you are all excited to join!

October Spooky TBR

October is finally here! Fall is upon us along with pumpkin spice, black cats and haunted houses! I love the month of October so much! I love doing all the spooky activities, in fact I worked for a haunted house for a season and that was probably one of my favorite short lived jobs I have had. There was also a small family owned corn maze down by my childhood home I would go to two or three times a year!

This is my year to read some good spooky books or at least Halloween themed books. Last year around this time I think I only read one, maybe two books, that would have gotten me in the spooky mood but this year I have a lot planned! I am taking this very seriously!

Spooky TBR Hopefuls

“The Shinning” by Stephen King is very high on my TBR ever since I read “Pet Semetary” a few months back. It was kind of funny because I ordered this book last weekend through amazon so I could start immediately and the day it arrived someone invited me to join their buddy read for the book, what great timing!. I have seen the movie recently actually and I really enjoyed it but have heard mix reviews about the book strangely but I am still very excited to dive into this book this spooky season.

“The Ex Hex” by Erin Sterling has been everywhere on my bookstagram! Well book of the month club decided to have this book as on of their main picks so of course I had to add it into my box! So I will now have a cute romance Halloween read along with a horror book, it feels like a good balance.

“The Chestnut Man” by Soren Sveistrup has been on my wish list for far too long and this month through book of the month club I finally gave myself a good enough excuse to spend some extra money and grab this as an add on! Now that it has a TV series on Netflix I really need to read this so I don’t get any spoilers.

“The Last Thing He Told Me” by Laura Dave was another book I got from Book of the month club recently. I feel like this thriller will get me into the spooky season spirit! I really love thrillers so how could I go wrong?

Conclusion

This month I only have four books on my TBR hopeful list because “The Shinning” has like a million pages and I know I am a slow reader. So I hope I can read all of these this month but like usual, I can’t make any promises.

I am also still trying to finish “Maybe You Should Talk To Someone” by Lori Gottlieb. I am reading it very slowly because I am trying to take every word in and learn from the book. I hope to finish it this month but I am in no rush.

Stay tuned for my Bookstaversary coming up on October 8th, next Friday! I am having a huge giveaway that I am so excited for! I am giving away signed copies of some of my favorite books! You will not want to miss out on this!

You all should join Book Of The Month Club if you haven’t already. They have so many good books especially good ones for the spooky season! Down below is my link to get your first book for super cheap! Check it out!

September Hopefuls

This month my genres are going to be all over the place! From Self Help to Fantasy I am going to cover it all, well kind of. There are more than five genres in the world but all five of my books I would say touch different genres and ideas from each other and so I am very excited to get started with this months picks!

My Line Up

Romance

Self Help

Poetry

Fantasy

Historical Fiction

Like I said all these books are very different than one another and I think that adds to all the fun! Two of these books are part of buddy reads which I still haven’t decided if I fully enjoy or not, but I am really trying! The other three books are ones I need to tackle so I can say that I have read them, they have been on my shelf for quite sometime.

I haven’t really read a poetry book before so when my new work friend recommended me “I Would Leave Me Too” by Halsey I honestly was kind of skeptical. I am not the best at understanding poetry and I am afraid I will just make a fool of myself trying to interpret the meaning behind the words. However, you will never know unless you try!

I am trying to read through all the Harry Potter books this coming year, one each month. This is part of a buddy read so it helps me to stay motivated to get it read. Also my boyfriends family are having a Harry Potter themed Halloween party so I should probably start finding a character I resonate with. Any help with this is very much appreciated!

“The Intellect” is an Indy book published by a seventeen year old! Yes, you read that correctly! I am so excited that she asked me to represent her book and to try and spread the word about her new romance novel. I am about halfway through the book and I am in love! If you would like to check out her book I will add a link so you can get your own copy.

“You Should Talk to Someone” has been catching my eye for months! I just keep putting it off because I’m not really a non-fiction self help kind of girl but honestly after the month I have had lately I could use some guidance in life. This will most likely be apart of a buddy read as well this month, maybe the other people in this group can help me get my life together!

Last but not least is “The Rose Code”, historical fiction is also out of my comfort zone but I mean who can turn down this gorgeous cover? I have also read so many wonderful reviews on this book and now that the hype has started to slow down I think now could be the perfect time to dive into this book.

Last month was crazy but this month might be worse. I am trying to balance a new job while also taking care of a three week old kitten and honestly I am sleep deprived! I haven’t really picked up a book in over a week and that is kind of depressing, but reading four books last month was a win for me! Now my goal is to keep that up with my busy schedule! Wish me luck!

If you are interested in reading one of these books with me lets do it!

August Hopefuls

We are four days into August so I think we are past due for our monthly hopeful list. So far for the two months I have posted hopeful lists I haven’t Followed along with them too well. I think that I am just too much of a mood reader to actually plan things and stick to it. As per tradition I will still be posting a hopefuls and I really feel positive about this list!

Hopefuls List

I have chosen these four books all for pretty specific reasons. I am in quite a few buddy reads this month to help me want to finish more books this month.

“The House in the Cerulean Sea” by TJ Klune

This book has been on my TBR since I started bookstagram a little less than a year ago.

I started my own buddy read on Facebook and this book was this months choice for that buddy read. We have a pretty small group of people but I think it is going to be a really good book for our group.

There is still time to join the buddy read! Click the link below and come join us!

“Razorblade Tears” by S.A. Cosby

This book is also part of a buddy read I am in this month with Court.Betweenthecovers feel free to click on the link to join this buddy read as well! The more the merrier!

Honestly, I have been looking forward to this book for about a month now and I have heard so many amazing reviews about this book. I have heard it has a ton of violence in it so just beware of possible trigger warnings.

“Been There, Married That” by Gigi Levangie

I received this book in my June premium book box from One Night Stand With a Book. I absolutely loved this box that I got and honestly the title alone pulled me in!

This will be my main romance read for this month. I am trying to pick a bunch of different genres to try and expand my horizons just a bit.

Have you heard of this book before? It only has a 2.81 star rating on goodreads but also very few ratings so I am willing to give it a chance!

“The Great Gatsby” by F. Scott Fitzgerald

First of all this book is very short! I feel like I can knock this book out in a day or two and can help me reach my reading goal for the year.

Next this is considered a classic and I really haven’t read any classics in my life other than in school when I was forced. Let’s be honest I didn’t read those books I just used sparknotes.

Lets get this book under my belt and finally say I have read and finished a classic!

This month I have quite a few different genres selected and I think that is what makes me the most excited about this months picks. I also have two buddy reads this month to help me get back on track with my reading goal and to help make closer friendships with other book lovers! This month has a lot of positive things going for me and I can’t wait to see how I do!

QOTD: Are you involved in any buddy reads? Drop them down below and explain what book your group is reading!

July Hopefuls and My Current Reads

Now that the Fourth of July holiday is over I feel like I am ready to post my July hopefuls. Last month for June I had four hopefuls and read none of them and only finished one book. This month I am already half way through three books and have another three on my hopefuls list! Will I actually complete six books this month? To be honest probably not but one can only dream!

My Current Reads

61% done

60% done

“Where the Crawdads Sing” by Delia Owens

I have been reading this book since the beginning of June. I really am enjoying this book however, it started off really slow for me so it took me awhile to actually get into. Now that I am over halfway done with the book it has gotten super interesting and so adorable. I am extremely invested!

“Desperate Measures” by Katee Robert

This book Is STEAMY! This book is a sexy retelling of Aladdin but instead of Jasmine falling for Aladdin she falls for Jafar and Aladdin (AKA Ali) is the actual bad guy. At first this was a strange storyline to get into because in my eyes Jafar was never really that attractive. With that said just forget what Jafar looks like in the cartoon and deep dive into this steamy book! There are some trigger warnings to be aware of; consensual – non consensual sex, violence and captivity.

“A Type of Hunger” by Pamela D. Beverly

I found this book when I was scrolling through some blog posts and I came across a comment from the author hoping to receive more reviews for her book. I immediately went to the kindle app store and bought her book. Honestly, I have been devouring this book! Her main character is a head strong male who loses his job and would rather risk every relationship he has than to tell anyone he is unemployed. You follow Nate through all his tough times and even his happy ones. I found myself really rooting for him! I can not wait to see how this pans out!

July Hopefuls

These are my three July hopefuls. I got “The Maidens” and “One Last Stop” in Junes BOTM box and I have been dying to read them! “Devils Knot” came from ONSWAB, my new favorite place to order books, and it is a true crime novel about The West Memphis Three case.

With these books I will hit a few different genres and I am so stoked about that! Thriller (My favorite genre), romance, true crime, non-fiction and LGBTQ Themes! I normally stick with just thrillers and mysteries with a few other genres scattered around occasionally so this month I am trying to get out of my comfort zone.

What books are you currently reading? What books are in your July hopeful piles? Are we reading any of the same books?
